Day 6: Missed that one...

Sure, I saw these beautiful flowers during a recent garden tour.
But I didn't really think a whole lot about them.
Until I got home and was looking through my photos for source and reference materials. How could I have missed them? I wish I had taken dozens of photos, done a few sketches, really drilled down and studied them.

Instead, I did that back in the studio.
After  painting them, I feel like I understand a bit more about these luscious vines/bushes. Enough to make me want to find out the name of it, to begin with.

It's always that way after painting a subject- you look with the intention of seeing and you bring away a knowledge that otherwise just goes by. Which makes me all sorts of curious about portrait painting. How much more does an artist know about a person after painting them? What an opportunity to really look at someone, to study them and come away with a deeper understanding of who they are.
Best to save that for after the 30 Day Challenge.

Great job. I think the birches are my fave. These flowers are moonflowers? I forget. They bloom at night, and are polinated by a certain type of moth, according to Bob. He told me if I got my fanny over to the gardens early enough one morning, I would see them when they are open and highly fragrant. Unfortunately, that never happened. Also it is hard to get near the blossoms as they are up high in the planter pots. Need to revisit that. Headlamps?? I like your theme, by the way, you good Catholic girl! Best, Ellie
