I read a comment on Kelley MacDonald's facebook page that referred to having a cocktail at a bar in downtown Boston, a manhattan. I misread and thought it said "having a Boston Marathon".
Is anyone else up for the idea of painting our individual version of a cocktail named the Boston Marathon...? Any sales of paintings could be donated to one of the Boston charities. I don't want anyone to be offended, or see this as trivializing the enormity of this event. Here in Boston, we are still living with the reality that our beloved city has been changed forever. As artists, we paint with this in our hearts every day. We lived in a city that shut down as it hunted for terrorists. We all know of someone who was there, who ran the race, who is still in the hospital recovering. We know of families devastated and of rescue workers who are haunted. And we all want to do more. If you think that there is something you would like to paint other than the cocktail (chosen because it is a big theme of Kelley MacDonald's, and the idea was born on her site after all), please do so. We can post on Facebook. I am proposing that all proceeds from paintings sold be donated to the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs. These are the wonderful folks who sent their trained comfort dogs to Newtown, CT and then to Boston to be with those who needed them. I saw a photo of the dogs visiting a young teenage girl just prior to going into surgery after the bombing, and of workers who sought out the K-9 tent when the work they were doing became overwhelming. The are based in the mid-west, and they are helping folks who need it throughout the country. Let me know what you think. http://lccphotos.smugmug.com/2013Photos/2013-04-K9-Comfort-Dogs-in/28948848_JKkctD#!i=2460851328&k=6cxRngd
