"Myrth" SOLD
I admit, this was painted just before the challenge started... but this weekend I needed a pass.
The thing about sailing in Maine is that it's so pretty all around you, it's better to be the crew than the captain, in my humble opinion. The water in Maine is a deep, cold blue, bluer than anywhere I've ever been. When the sun shines, the sky is clearer than you could possibly imagine, with air that posses a restorative quality. Air that guarantees a good night's sleep. As for the clouds, they are great big balls of puff, or angry Payne's Grey balls of fury. It all depends on what's coming as opposed to what you happen to be experiencing at the moment. You may not get much notice, but watching the sky can tell you a lot about what's heading your way.
The elegant sailboat in this painting is a Hood 32, designed by Chris Hood out of Marblehead.
She's called Myrth, and honestly, it was my pleasure to paint her as a gift from the best wife a lucky sailor could ever have.
